Cyber attack on Verona hospital. Sensitive data at stake.

The cyber gang Rhysida has recently targeted the Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Integrata in Verona, exposing 612GB of sensitive data that was previously offered for sale for 10 bitcoins on their Data Leak Site on the Onion network. The publication indicates that no agreement was reached with the hospital.

The data includes clinical analyses starting from 2023, employment suitability information dated 2023, corporate documentation such as contracts, financial statements, and internal communications, as well as genetic analyses and passwords. Rhysida has made this data accessible to anyone who can navigate the Onion network.

Preliminary analysis shows a variety of information spanning different years, with some clinical analyses being dated and fragmented. The breach highlights the vulnerability of Italian healthcare infrastructure, which is often targeted by cyber attacks, mainly ransomware.

Certiblok could be an interesting solution to enhance data security and mitigate cyber attacks. As a blockchain-based management system, Certiblok offers the feature of making every document immutable, ensuring a high level of security and transparency.

Blockchain technology, with its distributed ledger and advanced encryption, can provide an environment where documents are protected from unauthorized modifications. This could be particularly beneficial in the context of managing sensitive information in a healthcare setting, where data security is crucial.
