What changes for those who produce or import components intended for contact with drinking water.
Article 11 of Directive (EU) 2020/2184 and Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/370 set hygiene requirements and conformity assessment procedures; the EU declaration is drawn up by the manufacturer or their authorised representative (Italian Legislative Decree 18/2023, Article 10(7)).
The first defines conformity assessment procedures and the second marking specifications. The new rules apply from 31 December 2026, subject to transitional periods until 31 December 2032.
The new EU rules on conformity assessment, the EU declaration and marking apply from 31 December 2026. For products with a national certificate still valid on that date, Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/370 applies from 31 December 2032; Italian Legislative Decree 18/2023 provides for other transitional periods until the same date.
The DWD does not set a retention period for technical documentation. Ten years is a prudent reference commonly used in EU product legislation, not a DWD requirement.
Production isn't the hard part: it's proving, even years later, that a component meets the requirements.
Manufacturers, importers, and supply chain operators must confirm the controlled traceability required by the DWD — release tests and use of base materials contained in the Positive Lists — and often wait for the technical office to find the right document, perhaps via email.

In tenders or during the specification phase, and in customs and public health inspections, proof must be provided immediately: a delay can cost the contract or block the material.
